Signal Processing - Findings in signal processing reported from La Trobe University

2008 NOV 24 - (VerticalNews.com) -- "This paper presents an FFT/IFFr-based deterministic blind identification method for estimating the finite impulse response of single-input multiple-output (SIMO) communication channels. The new method delivers a frequency-domain realization of the cross-relation between each channel output pair," scientists writing in the journal Signal Processing report.

"With no assumption of the precise knowledge of channel order, the proposed algorithm is capable of estimating channel parameters as well as detecting channel order. In small sample size situations, our method exhibits consistent or better performance compared to the existing methods, e.g., the subspace, cross-relation and shifted correlation algorithms," wrote S. Wang and colleagues, La Trobe University ...read more

Signal Processing - Research on signal processing published by S. Jin et al

2008 NOV 10 - (VerticalNews.com) -- According to a study from London, the United Kingdom, "This paper presents an analytical performance investigation of transmit beamforming (BF) systems in Rayleigh product multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels. We first derive new closed-form expressions for the cumulative distribution function, probability density function, and moments of the maximum eigenvalue of a product of independent complex Gaussian matrices, which are used to provide a complete statistical characterization of the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). ...read more

Signal Processing - Recent findings from University of Manchester highlight research in signal processing

2008 NOV 10 - (VerticalNews.com) -- "High peak-to-average-power ratio (PAPR) is a particular disadvantage of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems and can significantly degrade the power efficiency at the transmitter. The aim of this paper is to propose a post-inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) PAPR reduction method based on intelligent linear symbol combining with the objective to minimize the PAPR at the transmitter," researchers in Manchester, the United Kingdom report ...read more
