Wireless Communications - Findings from Southern Methodist University in wireless communications reported

2010 SEP 1 - (VerticalNews.com) -- "One of the solutions that has been widely used by naive users to protect against phishing attacks is security toolbars or phishing filters in web browsers. The present study proposes a new attack to bypass security toolbars and phishing filters via local DNS poisoning without the need of an infection vector," scientists writing in the journal Wireless Communications & Mobile Computing report ...read more

Wireless Communications - Research on wireless communications detailed by W.K. Wen and co-authors

2010 SEP 1 - (VerticalNews.com) -- According to a study from Guangzhou, People's Republic of China, "A cross-level pre-RAKE combining (PRC) scheme for time hopping pulse amplitude modulation ultra wideband (TH-PAM UWB) transmitter is studied in this paper. A two-stage cross-level PRC (CL-PRC) scheme is proposed."

"The conventional PRC schemes suppress all the chip-wise interference. However, the proposed scheme suppresses only the specific frame-wise inter-symbol interference (ISI) by exploiting the characteristic that the information bits are transmitted only at ultra short time slots. This results in a low complexity pre-equalizer without bit error rate (BER) performance degradation. Furthermore, an order selection rule is presented to achieve the tradeoff between signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) and computational complexity," wrote W.K. Wen and colleagues ...read more

Wireless Communications - New wireless communications findings from University of Quebec published

2010 SEP 1 - (VerticalNews.com) -- "Cross-layer design is a generic designation for a set of efficient adaptive transmission schemes, across multiple layers of the protocol stack, that are aimed at enhancing the spectral efficiency and increasing the transmission reliability of wireless communication systems," investigators in Montreal, Canada report.

"In this paper, one such cross-layer design scheme that combines physical layer adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) with link layer truncated automatic repeat request (T-ARQ) is proposed for multiple-input multiple-output (MEMO) systems employing orthogonal space time block coding (OSTBC) The performance of the proposed cross-layer design is evaluated in terms of achievable average spectral efficiency (ASE), average packet loss rate (PLR) and outage probability, for which analytical expressions are derived, considering transmission over two types of MIMO lading channels, namely, spatially correlated Nakagami-m fading channels and keyhole Nakagami-m fading channels," wrote J.A. Qi and colleagues, University of Quebec ...read more
